Hollywood has not lost its taste for movies with a biblical theme. Now Joseph Fiennes is starring in this film about the mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus. The film also features one of the stars the Harry Potter series, Tom Felton, and actress María Botto. It opens on February 19th.

The film 'Risen' offers a very thoughtful and unique approach to events recorded in scipture.
It’s the story of a Roman tribune who is called to investigate the disappearance of the body of Christ after being crucified. The story is an adventure with the first disciples present in the Jerusalem of Pontius Pilate.

JOSEPH FIENNES
Risen
"He gets given something that very few people ever witnessed and that is the resurrection, right in front of his eyes. And still the next day he intellectualize: What is a trick? Did Jesus have a twin brother?... Noise again. And I think maybe we have to sometimes just allow the noise to disappear and tuning to the greater frequency of conversation and trust and no over intellectualize or not be stimulated by the material around us”.

It’s a dramatic account of the struggle between a Roman soldier, used to using force, and a group of person driven by love.

JOSEPH FIENNES
Risen
"They were brutal, they were surgical, they were economical, and they were ruthless. But they though as one unit. But they were lead, the leadership would come down in terms on the military, battle leadership will come down understanding your opponent, no in how to break down your opponent.”

The film was recently screened at the Vatican. Actor Joseph Fiennes, a Catholic, had the opportunity to greet Pope Francis. His wife and daughters accompanied him for an encounter which deeply moved them.

JOSEPH FIENNES
Risen
"This meeting goes beyond the explanation in words. It’s something that it’s profound. You can’t intellectualize or talk about. It’s an experience that it’s just in that moment. He is profound, spiritual, connected and deeply authentic… That’s all I can say. Normally on Wednesdays I’m on the supermarket shopping. This Wednesday I was with my family in Rome at the Vatican and we go blessed by the Pope. This is a huge, special, once in a life moment.”

For him it marked a profound experience where he was able to play one the most important roles in his career. It also presented a challenge – portraying how the first Christians lived in the days immediately following the Passion and when the disciples did not understand if Jesus had really risen or not.

Boa tarde, Pedro.
